The Energy Research Company (EPE) released the Hydrogen Technology Roadmap, a comprehensive study that outlines the technological and regulatory perspectives for the development of the hydrogen market in Brazil through 2055. Prepared in cooperation with Itaipu Parquetec, the document seeks to guide public policies, private investments, and national energy planning to consolidate hydrogen as a strategic driver in the transition to a low-carbon economy.
Regulatory Proposals and Technological Vision for Low-Carbon Hydrogen
The roadmap is structured into two technical notes: Regulatory Perspectives for Low-Carbon Hydrogen in Brazil and Technological Pathways, Innovation Opportunities, and Production Costs for Hydrogen of Different Carbon Intensities in Brazil. In these analyses, EPE details the main challenges and opportunities for the sector's expansion, considering factors such as competitiveness, legal certainty, and integration into energy production chains.
Among the results, the study presents regulatory proposals for the short, medium, and long term, aiming to create suitable conditions for the advancement of this market. Furthermore, it offers a technical and economic assessment of the different production and logistics routes for low-carbon hydrogen, with cost estimates and innovation opportunities. By projecting scenarios up to 2055, the document reinforces the importance of hydrogen as a key component in diversifying the energy matrix and meeting Brazil's climate goals.
