With less than a month to go before the largest national agribusiness event, Embrapa, in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) and Instituto 17, launched ABC+Calc, an innovative tool for monitoring methane and nitrous oxide emissions in livestock. The initiative is part of the ABC+ Plan and the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), led by UNEP, and reinforces the agricultural sector's commitment to reducing short-lived pollutants and addressing climate change.
The tool supports greenhouse gas mitigation and sustainable planning in the agricultural sector.
ABC+Calc was developed to systematize and centralize information on animal production residue management (APMM), allowing public administrators to use simple data, such as the number of animals and type of production system, to estimate methane mitigation potential and monitor the evolution of management practices. The platform considers the main production chains – swine, poultry, beef, and dairy cattle – and applies internationally recognized methodologies, offering technical support for setting goals and monitoring results within the context of the ABC+ Plan.
The tool's launch takes place on the eve of RIO+AGRO 2025 – the International Forum for Sustainable Agro-Environmental Development, which will be held from October 1st to 3rd at Riocentro in Rio de Janeiro. The event will bring together national and international experts for lectures, panels, and business roundtables to discuss innovative and sustainable solutions for agribusiness, consolidating Brazil as a leader in sustainable agro-environmental development in the tropical belt, with a focus on food, water, energy, socio-environmental, and climate security.
