The Ten-Year Energy Expansion Plan (PDE) is consolidating itself as the main informative instrument of the Brazilian government to guide society, sector agents, and investors on the prospects for expansion of the energy sector over a ten-year horizon. Prepared by the Energy Research Company (EPE), the document does not impose mandates, but indicates possible paths based on an integrated vision of the various energy sources—beyond electricity—offering a technical basis for strategic decisions, investments, and public policies in a context marked by economic, regulatory, and technological uncertainties.

Integrated Planning, Energy Security, and Scenarios for Dealing with Uncertainty

The Energy Development Plan (PDE) is structured around three central dimensions—economic, strategic, and social—to support the expansion of energy supply with competitiveness, better use of national resources, and universal access, respecting socio-environmental criteria. Typical elements include energy security analysis, the balance between supply and demand for guaranteed physical resources, fuel availability (especially natural gas), a schedule for hydroelectric inventories, and the identification of resources needed to meet demand.
