During the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém, Pará, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) and the Financing Agency for Studies and Projects (Finep) announced three calls for proposals focused on research and innovation in sustainability, totaling R$ 460 million in investments. This initiative reinforces Brazil's role as a global leader in the climate agenda and in promoting scientific development committed to environmental preservation and the appreciation of national diversity and culture.

Calls for proposals strengthen Brazilian science, memory, and bioeconomy

The resources will be distributed among the Pró-Amazônia 2025, Recovery and Preservation of Archives, and Investment Funds in Bioeconomy and Sustainability calls for proposals. The Pró-Amazônia call, with R$ 150 million, will support projects from research institutes in the Legal Amazon region in areas such as biotechnology, renewable energy, water management, and artificial intelligence. The call for proposals for the Recovery and Preservation of Collections, with R$ 250 million, will support initiatives for the digitization and conservation of scientific and cultural heritage.

Finally, the call for proposals for Investment Funds will allocate R$ 60 million to foster bioeconomy and sustainability companies. According to Minister Luciana Santos, the launch during COP30 symbolizes "Brazilian science as part of the global response to climate challenges," consolidating Finep and MCTI as pillars of green innovation in the country.
