The Institute of Technological Research (IPT), affiliated with the Secretariat of Science, Technology, and Innovation (SCTI) of the State of São Paulo, inaugurated the Hydrogen Laboratory (LabH2), consolidating a strategic milestone in the country's decarbonization and energy innovation agenda. With 126 years of history, IPT reaffirms its role as one of Brazil's most important research centers by investing in solutions that place hydrogen as an essential vector in the transition to a low-carbon economy.
Lab integrates research, innovation, and sustainability in the hydrogen chain
LabH2 was conceived as a multi-user research, development, and innovation environment, designed to operate across the entire hydrogen production chain—from production to storage, transportation, end use, and certification. The goal is to promote safe, efficient, and economically viable technological solutions based on renewable sources and low-emission processes, including waste reuse. This framework will enable the development of applications for energy-intensive sectors such as transportation, steel, cement, ceramics, chemicals, and sustainable aviation fuels (SAF).

With a total investment of R$50 million—combining resources and matching funds from the IPT itself, Finep (the Funding Agency for Studies and Projects, linked to the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation), and SCTI—LabH2 is part of the IPT Hydrogen Program and the Cenf Project. The initiative is aligned with the State Energy Plan 2050 and the ten-year plan of the Secretariat of Environment, Infrastructure, and Logistics (Semil), which envision the creation of an ecosystem of cooperation between the public and private sectors. Thus, the new laboratory reinforces São Paulo's position as a leading center for applied science and energy transition in Brazil.
