The discussion on ways to reduce emissions and expand the use of clean energy sources in the country gains new momentum at the event "The Role of Nuclear Energy in the Decarbonization of the Brazilian Energy Matrix." Bringing together government officials, academics, and private sector representatives, the meeting takes place over a morning dedicated to discussing the challenges and opportunities of nuclear energy as a strategic driver for the national energy transition.
Panels, experts, and perspectives for the future of energy
The program begins with a panel on the decarbonization of the electricity matrix, moderated by Professor Suzana Kahn of Coppe, and featuring Pietro Mendes of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Patrícia Nunes of the Energy Research Company (EPE), and Giovani Machado of Episteme. The second panel, focusing on the role of nuclear energy, will be led by Professor Alan Lima of Coppe/UFRJ. It will feature discussions on the use of small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs) for industrial decarbonization, as well as the participation of experts such as Professor Aquilino Senra, Vittorio Perona of BTG Pactual, and Reinaldo Gonzaga of Indústrias Nucleares do Brasil (INB). The event will conclude with a conclusions session, reinforcing the leading role of nuclear energy in the debate on a more sustainable Brazilian energy matrix.
