The 10th edition of Green Cities, one of the main national forums on urban sustainability, will be held on September 10th and 11th, 2025. This year, the event will focus on Blue Cities and the energy transition, bringing together high-level experts to discuss challenges, opportunities, and pathways to building more resilient societies.

The program brings together experts from different sectors to discuss innovation, clean energy, and urban quality of life.

The meeting will begin on the 10th with discussions on the Sustainable Blue Economy in the State of Rio de Janeiro, including the presentation of the Guanabara Azul project, with the participation of representatives from SEAS, UFRJ, AGENERSA, and FIRJAN. The highlight of the second day will be a lecture by Ambassador André Corrêa do Lago, president of COP30, followed by panels on energy sources for cities, the need for oil, the integration of green and blue sustainability, and technological solutions for urban centers. Confirmed speakers include researchers from Coppe/UFRJ, public administrators, representatives from the business sector, and renowned climatologists, such as Professor Carlos Nobre, who will be presenting a special video message.

In addition to technical panels, the event also offers practical reflections on quality of life, urban mobility, and the role of civil society in tackling climate change. The program also includes a screening of the documentary "Quanto Vale o Azul?" (How Much Is Blue Worth?), directed by journalist Ricardo Gomes, president of the Instituto Mar Urbano. The diversity of topics and the presence of actors from different fields reinforce the interdisciplinary nature of Green Cities, consolidating it as a strategic space for reflecting on the future of Brazilian cities in the energy transition and the integration of environmental sustainability and technological innovation.
