GWM projects R$ 20 million in hydrogen truck sales in Brazil following the first refueling with low-emission hydrogen in Bahia

Hydrogen-powered heavy-duty mobility took a significant step forward in Brazil with the first refueling of a GWM Hydrogen (powered by FTXT) truck using green hydrogen produced at the Low-Carbon and Green Hydrogen Technology Reference Center, located at SENAI Cimatec Park in Camaçari, Bahia. This milestone marks a new phase in the company's strategy for the country, shifting from technological demonstration to initial commercial negotiations. With projected revenues of R$ 20 million in 2026 and R$ 200 million in 2027, GWM is solidifying Brazil as its primary international hub for expanding hydrogen technologies outside of China.
Brazil becomes a strategic hub for hydrogen mobility in Latin America
The initial refueling of the truck with locally produced, low-carbon hydrogen represents far more than just an operational test. The vehicle is now undergoing evaluation under real-world usage conditions, accumulating over 1,000 kilometers of operation within the SENAI Cimatec technology complex. These trials will validate factors such as range, energy efficiency, operational performance, and refueling infrastructure, utilizing renewable fuel generated via water electrolysis at the pilot plant itself. According to Davi Lopes, Head of GWM Hydrogen-FTXT Brazil, the integration of hydrogen production, infrastructure, and the vehicle creates a unique environment to accelerate the development of sustainable mobility in the country.
The company's confidence in the Brazilian market is backed by FTXT's established experience in China, where over 2,000 fuel-cell-powered trucks are already operating in commercial applications, including logistics, heavy transport, and urban services. In Brazil, beyond selling new vehicles, the company is focusing on retrofitting diesel trucks, converting existing fleets into hydrogen-powered electric vehicles. The strategy reduces fleet renewal costs, accelerates the decarbonization of freight transport, and minimizes one of the sector's key challenges: limited national refueling infrastructure. With a range of approximately 500 kilometers, 544 hp of power, 2,300 Nm of torque, and emissions consisting solely of water vapor, the truck demonstrates that the technology has reached maturity for commercial applications, positioning Brazil as one of the most promising markets for the expansion of the hydrogen economy in Latin America.
