In a debate hosted by the Chamber of Deputies' Environment and Sustainable Development Committee, the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) highlighted, on September 11, the importance of critical minerals such as lithium, nickel, graphite, and rare earths in enabling technologies essential to the energy transition. The seminar highlighted Brazil's role as a strategic supplier of these inputs, which are essential for batteries, wind turbines, and solar panels.

Brazil seeks to add value and lead the global critical minerals chain

During the meeting, Gustavo Masili, General Coordinator of Strategic Minerals and Energy Transition for the Mineral Sector, emphasized that the modernization driven by the energy transition increases the demand for strategic minerals and creates new markets, such as electric vehicles, requiring technological innovation and greater global supply. According to him, Brazil is prepared to contribute not only to supply but also to adding value to mineral production, leveraging its predominantly clean electricity matrix to support climate change mitigation.

The debate also analyzed public policies and projects such as "Green Lithium," already approved in the Chamber of Deputies and currently under consideration in the Senate, highlighting the need to combine mining expansion with innovation, socio-environmental safeguards, and inclusive development. The meeting brought together representatives from the government, academia, the private sector, and civil society, reinforcing Brazil's potential to lead a new stage of sustainable development based on strategic minerals.
