The National Energy Balance (BEN) 2025, released in May by the Energy Research Company (EPE), linked to the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), confirms Brazil's leading role in the transition to a cleaner energy matrix. With consolidated data from 2024, the report reveals that the residential sector achieved a renewability rate of 71.8%, reinforcing the country's commitment to expanding renewable sources.

Residential, commercial, and industrial sectors expand use of clean energy

The figures indicate that the residential sector accounted for almost 80% of national solar thermal energy consumption, while the commercial sector accounted for 17.4%. In industry, solar thermal energy's share reached 3.1%, signaling a gradual replacement of fossil fuels with more sustainable alternatives. These results demonstrate significant progress across all segments, solidifying Brazil as a benchmark in the decarbonization of the energy matrix.

The BEN, published annually, gathers statistics on energy supply, consumption, and distribution, covering primary resource extraction, conversion into secondary forms, and energy trade. Since 2004, EPE has been responsible for its preparation and, in 2025, launched the "Energia do Brasil" (Energy of Brazil) series, which presents infographics and explanatory content to bring society closer to the data and strategies that drive the electrification of transportation, the diversification of biofuels, and the growth of solar and wind energy sources.
