In a movement that combines reconstruction, innovation and vision for the future, Rio Grande do Sul has formalized its decarbonization strategy as part of a broader structural transformation plan. The initiative consolidates a portfolio of more than 90 environmental projects already underway and symbolizes the state's commitment to sustainability, climate resilience and leadership in the national energy transition. The action comes at a particularly significant time, after the state faced one of the worst meteorological disasters in its recent history — reinforcing the urgency of public policies capable of combining economic development with environmental preservation.

Green reconstruction: a new paradigm for the future of Rio Grande do Sul

Aligned with the Rio Grande Plan and the Economic, Inclusive and Sustainable Development Plan, the state's decarbonization strategy is based on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, the incentive to use clean energy and the promotion of a low-carbon economy. The focus is not only on mitigating climate impacts, but also on adaptation and building a more fair, inclusive and resilient growth model.

The analysis of existing projects demonstrated that Rio Grande do Sul already has a solid foundation in environmental initiatives, and the new strategy seeks to articulate these efforts into an integrated policy with a long-term vision. The state is thus positioning itself as a laboratory for climate innovation for Brazil, offering a concrete example of how to rebuild territories and economies under the principles of sustainability and social justice.
