UFPR opens doors for companies to join a hydrogen technology center backed by R$ 60 million in funding

The Federal University of Paraná (UFPR) has released Call for Proposals No. 001/2026-SPIIN H₂, inviting companies, startups, and other organizations to join the Technological Association of the EMBRAPII-UFPR Competence Center for Low-Carbon Hydrogen. With R$ 60 million in non-reimbursable funding secured through an agreement with the Brazilian Company for Industrial Research and Innovation (EMBRAPII), the initiative aims to bridge the gap between scientific research and the needs of the productive sector, while accelerating the development of technological solutions for Brazil’s hydrogen economy.
Technological Association connects companies to research, scientific infrastructure, and industrial innovation.
Accredited by EMBRAPII, SPIIN H₂ is the organization’s only Competence Center in the country dedicated to low-carbon hydrogen. Over the course of four years, it will carry out a program encompassing research, technological development, human resource training, open innovation, and the expansion of scientific infrastructure. Its portfolio covers technologies for the production, purification, storage, transport, safety, and utilization of hydrogen—including pathways such as biogas, biomethane, biomass, waste, thermochemical and hydrothermal processes, and electrolysis—with potential applications in the chemical, petrochemical, fertilizer, steel, energy, and mobility sectors.
The call for proposals offers five membership tiers—Anchor, Strategic, Full, SME, and Startup—with annual contributions and benefits tailored to each category, allowing for the participation of organizations of various sizes. The process operates on a continuous basis, involving an expression of interest, an assessment of alignment with the Center’s activities, and formalization of membership upon approval. The administrative and financial management of contributions will be handled by FUNPAR.
