The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) announced the selection of five strategic projects to comprise Brazil's Investment Plan under the Climate Investment Funds – Industry Decarbonization (CIF-ID). The initiative, part of the National Hydrogen Program (PNH2), aims to drive the energy transition and support the decarbonization of hard-to-abate industrial sectors, consolidating the country's role in the global sustainability agenda.
Strategic projects in four states will attract up to US$250 million for energy innovation.
Among the prioritized proposals are the H2Orizonte Verde project (CSN Group – RJ), the Camaçari H2V Hub (Neoenergia S.A. – BA), B2H2 (Copel GET – PR), Uberaba Green Fertilizer (Atlas Agro – MG), and the Hydrogen and Ammonia Hub in Minas Gerais (Cemig GT – MG). Selected from 70 applicants in the public call launched in October 2024, the projects were evaluated based on eligibility, potential impact, innovation, and technical feasibility, reflecting Brazil's capacity to develop robust low-carbon hydrogen solutions. International recognition is reinforced by the result of the Expression of Interest submitted to CIF-ID, which placed Brazil first among 26 countries, guaranteeing access to up to US$250 million in concessional resources.
Next steps include finalizing Brazil's Investment Plan within CIF-ID, which will be coordinated by the Ministry of Finance in partnership with the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Education, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the World Bank, and UNIDO. The goal is to guide the efficient allocation of international resources to prioritized projects, strengthening the country's commitment to a fair, innovative, and sustainable energy transition capable of transforming the industrial matrix and establishing Brazil as a global benchmark in low-carbon hydrogen.
